NOTTINGHAMSHIRE INDUSTRIAL ARCHAEOLOGY SOCIETY

The Nottinghamshire Industrial Archaeology Society is no longer active

NIAS was formed in 1976 by a group of enthusiasts who felt that a county with a variety and abundance of industrial sites needed a body to encourage interest in and further the aims of industrial archaeology. It is neither possible nor desirable to retain everything of historical interest, and a surfeit of industrial retention merely waters down the impact of well-considered preservation. However, it is vital to record everything possible before it is altered or destroyed.
NIAS was a member of the Nottinghamshire Local History Association, the East Midlands Industrial Archaeology Conference and the Association for Industrial Archaeology.

NIAS held a Winter Programme of lectures and a Summer Programme of day and evening visits.
